Revision Notes V

Today I am going to rewrite Chapter Two, from the ground up! And when I'm done, it will be brilliant and shiny and amazing. I know exactly how I want it to work, and can't wait to get it there. Hopefully being at the write-in tonight will keep me on task. (Although, I really don't care for Panera at all. At least they have wireless.)

I'm kind of skipping around with my revisions-- I think mostly because as I move forward through the chapters I'm getting a better idea of exactly what I want to do, and how I want to do it, so then I go back to adjust the earlier bits to match the polish. I don't know if this makes sense, or if I'm the only one who does this, but so be it. I've been doing some AWESOME work with Asgard and the Norse gods, so I'm pretty thrilled about that. Anyone else finding as they move forward in revisions, they have to go back and catch up the beginning to the greatness of the end?

In other non-revision related news, I finished reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Can't wait to get to read the next one-- but my next trip to the bookstore isn't until February, I think. I'm also anxious to pick up Thor vol 3 which should be coming out (or is out?) in hardcover very soon. Marvel, you are totally making money off of my impatience to read comic books and inability to wait for paperback editions. I won't shell out for hardcover REGULAR books, but hardcover comics? I'm there.

I might need a new tag for revision notes one of these days...

  1. You're going to love the rest of the Percy Jackson series! I plowed through them and am hoping there are more to come.

Revisions? I am sooooo tired of revisions! :)

  2. So is Percy Jackson good? Because I have a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket.

    And, go you!

And, yes. Well, you know. I'm always going back and forth in my processes.

  3. Stephanie: I am really interested to see what else he does with the gods-- and SUPER curious how he explains Athena's lack of virginity. Or does he just not?

Sarah: It's good! You will definitely love it.

re: Revisions-- I only hate them when I don't know what I'm doing. Once I know what I want to accomplish, and start getting somewhere, it's kind of exciting.

  4. OK, so I sort of forgot that when I saw the preview for the movie they're making of Percy Jackson, they mentioned that Athena was the mother of one of them. And I about freaked out in the theater. Not in the same way I did when I discovered they were making Neil Gaiman's Stardust into a movie (my brother was embarrassed to be in the theater with me), but in an, oh, no, you didn't sort of way.

  5. Hey Amalia! I don't know if you're interested or have already heard, but if you like the writing in Thor (by Straczynski), he's going to be doing a new Superman book soon! Superman: Earth One, part of a new continuity. They're running it with a new Batman book, both are going to be self-contained stories that offer one continuous plot line.

I loved his run on Thor, so I'm excited to see more of his writing!

  6. Sarah: I didn't notice it in the preview, but it was apparent to me in the book, and it definitely gave me pause to wonder. I mean, I understand wanting to use that, and I think it would be okay-- as long as there's some plausible explanation for why she gave up being the virgin goddess, you know?

Trinza: I had not heard! But I am DEFINITELY interested! Thanks for the heads up!

  7. Aw man, I'm so bad at revising. Probably because I haven't done it a whole bunch, but still.

I think my main problem with revising is that I haven't revised anything WORTH revising, so I ran into a lot of heart- and headache.

Good luck, and it was nice to see you on the Nano forums last year!

  8. Shayda:
Hopefully I'll see you on the forums again this year! :) Haven't had a lot of time to spend in them during the off-season, but such is life.

    Did you win Nano?
