Summer 2022, Go!

I'm a little early, I know, but I wanted to give you all a little progress update!

First: the BLOOD OF THE QUEEN hardcover print proof has arrived and it looks extremely pretty!

I'll be doing one final read through and then I'll be hitting publish either this month or early in June! Hooray!!!

Second: I'm also going to be releasing OF GODS AND JOTUNS very shortly (again either this month or early in June--whichever thing gets done first is what I'm hitting publish on even though I know I just said I was going to release OF GODS AND JOTUNS this month for sure over on Patreon, like yesterday! I'm living a wild life right now, what can I say? In my defense though, OF GODS AND JOTUNS is MOST LIKELY To be first since the proof I'm waiting on is just to double check the cover and story headers, not the text itself.)

This short story collection will be PAPERBACK ONLY, unless you're a patreon patron, in which case later this summer you'll also get limited time access to a patreon exclusive ebook download also at the ThorsBFF tier ($5/month).

The flash stories are all already available online to read for free either here on the blog or elsewhere, and the short stories individually are either for sale in wide release or exclusive to patreon--but this collection brings everything together in one place in a nice little paperback (as requested by my mom), along with an author's note giving readers a little bit of context for each story!

Cover Copy:

One Novelette, three flash fiction stories, and five short stories, previously digitally published or otherwise released independently, but collected all together in print for the first time, including:
Favor of God
The Foundation of Rome
Imaginary Friends
Frost Bitten, Twice Shy
A Norse Lullaby
I am Europa
The Rule of Fate
Ned Thrall
Refuge
Encompassing subjects from Samson and Delilah and the founding of Rome, to the thread of myth and even the experience of the divine in our present day, and onward to the far future of advanced science and its role in how we make sense of the limits of our DNA and the ramifications of genetic modification, there’s something for everyone in this story collection: fantasy, historical fiction and mythic retelling, romance, contemporary fiction, and even some sci fi!

THIRDLY:
I have one more semi-secret project tentatively planned for release in July--it'll release first to Patreon Patrons, who will get a limited time ebook download at the ThorsBFF tier, and then go out into the wider world, after, if everything goes according to plan. More on that next month!

If you want to stay super on top of all this stuff (and get first dibs on my shorter works as well), I definitely recommend coming on over to Patreon where I share all this stuff first, now! You can patron up for as little as a dollar a month and still get access to a TON of content, including the entirety of COST OF LIVING and SON OF ZEUS!

Which reminds me of a fourth item:

I'll be doing an EXTREMELY limited print run of COST OF LIVING which will ONLY be available directly through me--if you want to be absolutely sure you get a copy, you definitely want to be on Patreon which already has a tier ($25 ThorLover) for signed paperback copies of anything I release! Patrons get first dibs and this book is going to be limited to a maximum of 50 total copies EVER. This book is never going to be for sale through other outlets--it will remain an exclusive Patreon serial, digitally, and the physical editions won't be distributed via any other outlet that isn't just me at a table somewhere, probably.

Here's a peek of that book, too, which looks mighty fine also, even if I do say so myself!

I haven't set a date yet for this but I'll let you all know when I know when it's actually happening and I'm getting ready to place the paperback order. But again, Patreon is your best bet to make sure you hear about it, since patrons get the news delivered directly to their inboxes.

Summer Update, 2019!

So wow, okay. Lots to share!

I'm happy to report that the backmatter of HONOR AMONG ORCS's paperback is now updated and live, so if you were holding off for that, it's ready for your purchase! Enjoy!

I've been on kind of a short story formatting spree, to get some content going for my Patreon patrons (Thank you, Patrons!!!) and I've released Frost Bitten, Twice Shy for your reading pleasure! It's just 99 cents right now but it'll go up to 1.99 before the end of August. It's also available in WIDE release so if you're not a kindle reader, I've got you!

Available NOW to Patreon Patrons is another short story, Refuge, which will remain Patreon exclusive for likely the foreseeable forever--but the good news there is that for just $1 a month, you can read it as a blogpost, along with Frost Bitten, Twice Shy, AND my take on Samson and Delilah, Favor of God, which I just released for Patreon Patrons as well! Not going to lie, I am kind of in love with all three of these short stories and have been for a really long time, so I'm excited to be able to share them finally.

(If you bump that 1 dollar a month up to 5 dollars a month, you'll get all three as epub/mobi files, right now, too--for a limited time! Favor of God will go kindle exclusive after August 15th!)

Coming in August for Patreon 5 dollar Patrons (ThorsBFFs) first: ENDURING FATE, a NEW Fate of the Gods novella which tackles Eve's life in the ward during the early 20th century. It should be read as book 2.75 in the series AFTER Fate Forgotten! Patrons also got to see the cover art first, but today is the day I'm revealing it to the rest of the world! Are you ready?

Kindle Pre-Order!

For everyone else, Enduring Fate will release in September! Huzzah! [Kindle Pre-Order Go!] It's going Amazon Exclusive for the near future, so if you want the epub, Patreon is really your best bet in the shorter term. And during the first two weeks of August, if you Patron in for 5 dollars, you're basically getting two free short stories for the price of Enduring and Favor if you were going to buy them on Amazon later! So. It's not a bad deal!

(No hard feelings if you sign up as a 5 dollar patron on August 1 and cancel or drop to a 1 dollar level before the end of the month, either! I feel you.)

But listen:
Enduring Fate is a tough read. It was a tough WRITE for that matter--which is why even though I wrote a goodly portion of it in 2010 it languished on my hard drive for the last 9 years. TW: This novella contains miscarriages, verbal and physical abuse, suicidal ideation, self-harm, discussion of abortion, the grossness of eugenics generally and forced sterilization specifically.

Please read with care and consideration for your own mental health. I think it's important because so few people understand our own history of Eugenics in America, and how our love affair with it directly influenced the atrocities of WWII, and it was definitely an important story for me personally, for other reasons in addition. But. It may not be the best read for all of you, and I don't want to do any of you any harm in sharing it.

Okay?
Okay.

I'm holding off on the paperback edition of this novella for the moment because I am over 40K deep in another Fate of the Gods was-supposed-to-be-a-novella-also contemporary prequel to Forged by Fate, exploring how Eve and Garrit actually met and got together, and I'm leaning toward packaging them together as a paperback edition instead of doing two smaller volumes. If there is an outcry from readers demanding a paperback of Enduring Fate alone, I'll be happy to change my mind, so do let me know if your feelings on this subject are strong!

I think that about covers it for the time being! Still no newsletter because I still don't have a PO Box (Author Amalia is extremely broke) but I'll continue to keep you updated via the blog, Patreon, Twitter, and Facebook, so check back often!

Orc1 and Orc2 Update

Hi Readers!

This is just a quick housekeeping note--

HONOR AMONG ORCS and BLOOD OF THE QUEEN are in the process of being unpublished on one end* and republished on the other, so if you notice availability isn't quite right or broken links, that's why. I'm working as hard and as fast as Amazon will allow to get this sorted and the books live again with as little disruption to potential new readers as possible!

What you can expect:

  • The KINDLE EDITION of HONOR AMONG ORCS is already up and running! Huzzah! If you haven't checked out my Orc Saga, now is as good a time as ever will be! With a bonus of helping me recover some of the long-term-algorithmic ranking xp if you buy it now :)
  • HONOR AMONG ORCS PAPERBACK IS NOW LIVE!! I have suspicions that the paperback of HONOR might get bounced back on some pagination technicality, and if that happens, it's going to take me a while to get it sorted out--I don't have the final final correct word doc from which to rebuild a new pdf without reproofing the whole book and doing some reformatting so your patience will definitely be appreciated if it comes to that.
  • BLOOD OF THE QUEEN is now LIVE in paperback AND for kindleis just waiting for Amazon to give it a thumbs up--all the files are submitted and updated and looking pretty, so hopefully they won't make me wait too much longer. I DO have the final final word doc for BLOOD so any paperback formatting issues can be quickly addressed if KDP gives me grief. (Fingers crossed/knock on wood we can transition smoothly.)
  • THE QUEEN AND HER BROOK HORSE will remain available and is completely unaffected! Available for kindle AND in paperback! It is also enrolled in Kindle Unlimited if you prefer to read by subscription!

I'll update you all on Facebook and Twitter when the new editions go live and replace the old main links (on the orc saga page and the sidebar) when I have new ones that work! (If you buy the new editions and notice anything amiss, please let me know. I did my best but--mistakes creep in with every file edit.)

Thanks again for your patience and happy reading!!!

*the first two Orc Saga titles were originally published via my agency when I was but a newb and knew not what I was doing--they were very kind to hold my hand through the initial self-pub process and I am so grateful for the work they did in getting me my one and only bookbub feature, among other things!

The Glory of Books on Shelves

To fully appreciate my elation, and why this deserves its own post, you have to understand that my books have been in boxes since last April/May, when the flooring of doom project began. They are still not all unpacked, but I'm making some significant headway -- and plan on getting this unboxing project completed before the end of the summer.

My efforts have been hampered by a number of complications -- one of which was the loss of a bookshelf when we tried to relocate it to clear the room for the flooring install. It just literally fell apart in our* hands. So when I finally did start unpacking... well, the shelving we did have filled up FAST. As you can see.

I had to make some cuthroat decision about what books were going to be shelved and what weren't, in the shorter term, until we accepted delivery of a bookshelf... um, let's call it a donation, from a family member. This of course meant that once the new bookcase was delivered and set in its assigned location, I had to reorganize the books that were already shelved -- because there's a method to all this madness. Series and Genre and Author all have to be taken into account! And then also the sizing of the books (because Thor forbid there be a standardized trade paperback size.) You have to arrange them in such a way that more books can be positioned horizontally on top, because ALL THE BOOKS, and spaces is always at a premium. As you can see. Um. Again. (That towering stack reaching into the sky is because that whole top shelf is the TBR pile and I obviously didn't take into account the reality of the number of unread books I accumulated this past year between cons and, you know, trips to the bookstore. Whoops.)

But there is hope! Light at the end of the tunnel! Or at least temporary light, because I know for SURE this is not all my historical fiction titles:

a shelf from the unpictured still in progress donated bookcase

And this is definitely not even all my YA fantasy/sci fi, though I am excited to report that I have been able to consolidate most of my unboxed YA titles on the shelves above and below. For the moment.

Sooooo there's still not a small amount of reorganization in my future, but I'm getting there. Slowly but surely, but surely all the same. And I can tell you already I'm going to need at least one more 6ft bookcase, if not two, in order to shelve all the books I have left.

But there is NOTHING in this world more satisfying than looking at my well-ordered books on their shelves, so I can promise you I won't be giving up on the dream of every beautiful book in its place.

In the meantime, I hope you're keeping up with me at blog.amaliacarosella.com! Carosella Author!me has been... very busy.
